Description
This drawing explores memory and the connection to the earth. The forms interlock in a dense composition. An orange sun dominates a sky with bluish hues.
The gaze travels between geometric patterns evoking traditional weaves and stylized architectures. Ocher and earthy tones anchor the scene in an organic reality. A dove flies over the landscape, carrying a calligraphic message.
The line alternates between precision and fluidity. Graphic details, such as circles and fine lines, structure the space. The image superimposes childhood memories onto an aerial view of urban neighborhoods.
The artist uses drawing here to translate a tension between fragility and rigidity. The composition suggests a quest for freedom within a closed environment. Each visual element acts as a coordinate on an intimate map.
The work was created in 2025 with art drawing techniques. It presents a subtle balance between rough textures and soft color blocks.
Presentation
Yazan Abu Salameh is a Palestinian artist whose work explores how life under occupation shapes the spaces people live in and their sense of movement, freedom, and belonging. Working primarily with ink and mixed media, he depicts walls, buildings, military structures, and enclosed spaces, transforming them into reflections on restriction and the desire for freedom. His restrained compositions, often marked by small windows, openings, and touches of colour, create a contrast between confinement and hope, turning familiar surroundings into spaces for reflection.
Born in Jerusalem in 1993, Abu Salameh studied Fine Arts at Dar Al-Kalima University in Bethlehem from 2011. His work is informed by his close relationship with the Palestinian landscape and the everyday realities of living within a contested environment. Through architecture and space, he explores how experiences of movement, separation, and control become part of everyday life and memory. Abu Salameh currently lives and works in Ramallah, where he continues to develop his practice from his studio.
