Description

Currents Through Structure is an original large-scale abstract diptych by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026. Composed of two 100 × 140 cm acrylic paintings on canvas, the work explores the relationship between architectural structure, movement, water and changing light.

I created these two paintings as a dialogue between two different states. The left canvas feels cooler and more fluid, while the right introduces warmer, more grounded architectural forms. Together, they explore how apparently solid structures can be transformed by movement, reflection and time.

The first panel combines dusty blue, muted turquoise, steel blue, blue-grey and deep teal with ivory, soft white, pale grey and cool greige. Layered rectangular forms and intersecting lines suggest fragments of windows, glass, reflections or an imagined architectural environment.

The second canvas introduces warm beige, taupe, sand, earthy brown, burnt umber and espresso, contrasted with pale aqua, icy blue, white and blue-grey. Strong vertical forms provide structure, while expressive textures and lighter passages appear to move through and dissolve their boundaries.

I developed both paintings using professional acrylic paints, palette knives and brushes, combining layering, glazing, scraping, dragging, dry-brush techniques and spontaneous gestural marks. Some areas were repeatedly painted and partially removed, revealing earlier layers and creating depth, irregular edges and richly textured surfaces.

For me, the diptych is about the contrast between permanence and change. Architecture creates boundaries, but water, light and time continuously move through them and alter the way we perceive space.

The work does not represent a specific city or landscape. Instead, it exists between geometric abstraction, architectural abstraction and abstract landscape, leaving the viewer free to discover associations with water, reflections, glass, façades or distant spaces.

The two canvases are intentionally different rather than symmetrical. Their contrasting palettes and structures create tension, while recurring blues, whites, dark lines and layered surfaces connect them visually.

The space between the panels also becomes part of the composition—a pause separating two visual states while maintaining their dialogue.

Displayed vertically side by side, Currents Through Structure creates a monumental composition approximately 200 × 140 cm, excluding the space between the canvases.

This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork, painted entirely by hand in 2026. Both canvases are signed on the front and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

The paintings are sold unstretched and unframed and will be carefully shipped rolled in a protective tube. They can be professionally stretched onto wooden stretcher bars after arrival.
