Description
This painting transports the viewer to a whimsical aquatic sanctuary. Intricate architecture piles upward in a dense cluster of terracotta roofs and slender spires. The city floats between a vivid blue sky and shimmering waters. Warm ochre and deep reds dominate the palette. These tones evoke a sense of timelessness and cozy nostalgia.
A grand stone bridge connects two halves of the settlement. Above this arch, a solitary hot air balloon drifts peacefully. This element adds a touch of surrealism to the scene. Below, elegant sailboats glide through the harbor. Their cream-colored sails catch the light, guiding the eye across the composition. The water reflects the complex silhouettes of the buildings in rhythmic, colorful ripples. Precision in the linework creates a feeling of a meticulously crafted miniature world. Each window and balcony suggests a hidden story. The atmosphere remains serene and inviting. This artwork blends architectural fantasy with a dreamlike coastal harmony. The light glows softly, highlighting the curved domes and sharp peaks of the skyline.
Presentation
A contemporary Bulgarian artist of German heritage (b. 1970), Dmitry King holds a Bachelor's degree in Painting and Design with a specialization in Painting and Graphic Arts. His practice spans over two decades and has earned him international recognition across Europe and North America. His work investigates the threshold between the inner world of the individual and the symbolic imagery that emerges at the intersection of imagination and lived emotional experience. Working primarily in magical realist painting with elements of surrealism, he constructs visual dialogues between tangible reality and metaphorical, image-driven spaces – inviting the viewer into a deeply introspective yet universally resonant encounter. Since 2013, Dmitry King has been an active member of the Union of Professional Artists of Bulgaria (Varna), facilitating ongoing collaboration with galleries throughout the country. Since 2016, he has had a permanent collaboration artist agreement at HG Contemporary Gallery in the Chelsea art district, New York – one of the city's most prestigious contemporary art spaces – where he exhibits.
