Description
A surreal landscape unfolds in this captivating composition. A serene female figure anchors the scene. Her gaze is steady and timeless. Instead of a crown, a sprawling medieval city rests upon her head. Intricate towers and stone archways climb toward a luminous full moon. The architecture feels organic. It merges with her presence in a dreamlike symbiosis.
Cool tones dominate the palette. Deep blues and slate greys create a moody atmosphere. A distant ship glides across the still water. Jagged, snow-capped mountains frame the horizon. The lighting is ethereal. It casts soft glows on the city walls and the woman's pale complexion. This artwork explores the intersection of identity and imagination. The city becomes a metaphor for the mind. Every turret and window hints at hidden memories. A thin, golden thread connects the figure to the lunar sphere. This delicate line suggests a cosmic link between the subconscious and the celestial. Technical precision defines the brushwork. The artist balances architectural rigidity with the soft curves of the human face. It is a poetic meditation on internal worlds and silent strength.
Presentation
A contemporary Bulgarian artist of German heritage (b. 1970), Dmitry King holds a Bachelor's degree in Painting and Design with a specialization in Painting and Graphic Arts. His practice spans over two decades and has earned him international recognition across Europe and North America. His work investigates the threshold between the inner world of the individual and the symbolic imagery that emerges at the intersection of imagination and lived emotional experience. Working primarily in magical realist painting with elements of surrealism, he constructs visual dialogues between tangible reality and metaphorical, image-driven spaces – inviting the viewer into a deeply introspective yet universally resonant encounter. Since 2013, Dmitry King has been an active member of the Union of Professional Artists of Bulgaria (Varna), facilitating ongoing collaboration with galleries throughout the country. Since 2016, he has had a permanent collaboration artist agreement at HG Contemporary Gallery in the Chelsea art district, New York – one of the city's most prestigious contemporary art spaces – where he exhibits.
