Description
A vivid Mediterranean escape unfolds across the canvas. Saturated colors breathe life into a steep coastal village. Terracotta roofs cascade down the hillside like a warm current. They nestle against lush, emerald greenery. The composition guides the eye from the dense architecture toward the shimmering expanse of the sea.
Deep blues meet pale currents in a rhythmic dance of light. Slender white sailboats drift peacefully across the water. In the distance, rugged cliffs fade into a soft, atmospheric haze. The light feels eternal. It captures the golden stillness of a summer afternoon.
Broad brushstrokes instill a sense of movement and vitality. Each building is rendered with a geometric precision that suggests organic growth over centuries. The interplay between the stony cliffs and the vibrant foliage creates a rich textural contrast. This artwork evokes a feeling of serenity and timelessness. It transforms a geographical landscape into a poetic sanctuary where nature and human habitation exist in perfect harmony. The scene concludes with the gentle curve of a sandy shoreline meeting the tide.
Presentation
A contemporary Bulgarian artist of German heritage (b. 1970), Dmitry King holds a Bachelor's degree in Painting and Design with a specialization in Painting and Graphic Arts. His practice spans over two decades and has earned him international recognition across Europe and North America. His work investigates the threshold between the inner world of the individual and the symbolic imagery that emerges at the intersection of imagination and lived emotional experience. Working primarily in magical realist painting with elements of surrealism, he constructs visual dialogues between tangible reality and metaphorical, image-driven spaces – inviting the viewer into a deeply introspective yet universally resonant encounter. Since 2013, Dmitry King has been an active member of the Union of Professional Artists of Bulgaria (Varna), facilitating ongoing collaboration with galleries throughout the country. Since 2016, he has had a permanent collaboration artist agreement at HG Contemporary Gallery in the Chelsea art district, New York – one of the city's most prestigious contemporary art spaces – where he exhibits.
