"Waiting for the moon" is a collective exhibition born from the cooperation between Lanificio, multi-purpose space dedicated to entertainment, music and catering, and the young roman art gallery Nero. The exhibition brings together 30 italian and international artists belonging to Lowbrow art and Popsurrealism, and will take place from June 18 to July 23, 2016, at Lanificio in Via Pietralata.
The exhibition is connected with Feria, the summer festival hosted on the roof of the Lanificio, now in its 3rd edition and scheduled every day from May 15 to September 30, 2016.
"Waiting For The Moon" is a praise to the moon, planet ambassador of the night, that enlighten the darkness, and marks the transition from the certainty of sunlight to the disquiet of the dark. Creator of dreams and hallucinations, inspirer of artists, writers, filmmakers, the moon continues to incite other visions, ambiguous worlds, surreal universes, magical dimensions.
"Waiting for the moon" explains the wait of the Lady of the night by opening the exhibition to the public in that fraction of time when the sun gives way to darkness, and the light strolls from sunset to dusk, until it merges with black.
So the visitor will be aware of the works through the paradox of seeing art in the darkness: a contradiction that points out the most ephemeral feature of art and ensures that the artworks are visible just before sunset and only until moonrise.
The exhibit will host works by 30 members of Lowbrow Art and Pop Surrealism, whose visions wander from the most extreme dark tendency to the most surreal pop: paintings, sculptures, installations, murals, published and unpublished works, in addition to performances, will mark the two crucial moments of their stay at Lanificio, the vernissage and finissage.
All the artworks will be completely accessible only ever with the natural light into the spaces of an old industrial structure brought back to life through different forms of urban entertainment. Then, in the dark, they will still be visible briefly and only through the use of a torch.
The intention is to give to the Roman public a different opportunity to get in touch with the new expressive trends: a post-industrial and decentralized place, a summer month to keep enjoying art in spite of the heat, a gentle and anti-academic way to approach an artistic movement in great ferment.
