Xiaohai WU's works are made in charcoal on paper and their sizes vary from single to double. In each of the drawings, there are small skits in which actors are two young children in an unexpected, even surreal situation.
He naturally traces his childhood dream by playing with shadow and light effects provided by his tool. His drawings are also allusions to ancient history or communism. By the use of charcoal, he manifests his distrust for our society and his commitment to this tool, almost forgotten in the practice of contemporary art.
