For the start of the school year, ifa gallery has programmed an exhibition in tune with the times, presenting the new project of the trio of Belgian artists, “Leroy Brothers”. The “Coding as a social & creative inception” exhibition stems from the “Witness Your World” project, a social network put online. “Art as a unique testimony of our time. »Imagined by Leroy Brothers, the platform allows members to share photos and messages as they wish. The works resulting from the “Witness Your World” project are conceived as instant mirrors of society, where immediate information dominates. Interpreted by the trio of artists, the final composition produces an unexpected and authentic work of art. . They mark an era to recall that artists participate in a common work on the image by keeping their artistic language distinctly through a computer language. For this exhibition Leroy Brothers is offering a complementary exercise from the “Witness Your World” platform. The collective addresses the questioning of the origins and legitimacy of the image, the reformulation of concepts. Through this research, the trio opens new paths to creation, they free up spaces from stylistic immobility. This purely formal exercise is done to the detriment of the perfection of the original image. The new work is the result of superposition, change of scale, rotation and fragmentation applied to the original image. The new image cannot be read in reverse order to find its origin. Everything is directly perceived as a linear unfolding with its beginnings and ends. The work produced does not provide any feeling of security because it does not provide any feeling of déjà vu. This process of subversion, beyond any ideology or folly of its creators, demonstrates the multiple possibilities of combining artistic and computer vocabulary. This project does not definitively classify the artists who designed it in a stylistic category. “The users, registered on the platform, are our source, the basis of our creativity. “Witness Your World” evokes the accessibility of art to everyone. For Leroy Brothers, this interactivity is the driving force behind their artistic production. This group of three brothers has been working since 1997. Selected to be part of the “Jing'an Sculpture Park” during the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, Leroy Brothers was represented worldwide. Recently, the collective had a major exhibition at MMOMA in Moscow, and at the New Digital Art Biennale “The Wrong” in 2015. The brothers live and work in Ghent and Hasselt (Belgium), as well as in Saint-Paul-de -Vence (France).
