Presentation

Since 1981, Philippe De Gobert structures his artwork in two segments: first assembling his models and second capturing their fabricated interiors. His universe is composed of imagined structures, to which he insufflates life, such as a demiurge. There is something in the pictures of Philippe De Gobert that is troubling us. As if, from these interiors too perfectly arranged was emerging the tenacious, but subtle and poetic, sensation of a deception. A luminous and crude playfulness transcends our reality in his photography.

Born in a family of artists, Philippe de Gobert is trained in photography at the INRACI (National Institute of radio engineering and the cinematography, Brussels). As a student, he develops a fondness for Kurt Schwitters’ work and assembles his first composition of objects. Early in his work, he takes the habit of miniaturizing real or fictitious artist’s studios. He was invited to exhibitions at the photography Museum at Charleroi (1990), at the Art Contemporary Center of Brussels (1995), at the Elysee Museum in Lausanne (1998), at the University of Quebec in Montreal (2002), at the Contemporary Art Museum of Grand Hornu (2017).
