Fabienne Claesen

Born in 1959 - Belgium

Fabienne Claesen is a ceramicist and sculptor born on April 6th, 1959 in Louvain, Belgium. She distorts and reshapes freely her figurative artworks.

"He is standing, vibrating, expressive, fragile? She is the clay, her utilitarian role reinterpreted, without any glazing, without any fire, defying time. She is covered in cracks and scratches... He is coverend in scars and wrinkles.
Traces of life, traces of living.
People whose skin resembles the bark of a tree.
Proud, vertical and dignified, sometimes arrogant, seducing or being seduced, or simply himself.
No arms, or actually his arms are there, engraved and traced in white, stuck to the body, without any strenght.
Fluidity of the body.
A raw human being, a human that has risen and is authentic.
I used black clay for making the white man and white clay for making the black one.
No skin, no color, one person, one spirit.
At the dawn of words, there is the act of rising... of creating"
