Larissa Ickx

Larissa Ickx was a very young girl when she stroked a canvas with her brushes for the first time. She was 15 years old. And the need to create already made her hands shiver. She began to paint, cut, build and paste with fervor. Inhabited by the pleasure of art, she confessed later that she could not have done anything else. Passion had won her over entirely.

From her studies in Florence, London and Paris, she retained the energy of great capitals and the majesty of masterpieces. But it was his travels, especially in Africa, that were decisive in shaping his gaze. She meets serious characters who mark her, and others whose lightness touches her.

She welcomes all these emotions, and seeks to put them into images. Sometimes she tinkers with the pleasure of a child, sometimes she gives birth to meaningful works. Her mind is teeming with ideas, subjects introduce themselves, go and return at their own pace, and Larissa works on the floor, in contact with the floor. She mixes techniques, blurs the tracks, flirts with wisdom and turns her back on it the next moment to express her fantasy.

Often she stages female characters, which she cuts or photographs according to her mood. Free and delicate like a wild bird, she shows her thousand facets through her works without ever letting herself be caught.

After her watercolors, her series of “necessities" and that of ghosts, her desire to share the beauties she perceives leads her to the Galápagos. Tender for animals (she only kills mosquitoes), she discovers a little savage fauna which fearlessly approaches humans. And around her an unspoiled nature whose soul is powerful. Larissa stops in front of the movement of the petrified lava. In the waves and the braids formed by the matter which she photographs, she puts her personal touch.
