Ivan Totev

1958 – born in Plovdiv

1988 – graduated from the Veliko Tarnovo University, class of Prof. Nenko Marov

2004 – became a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.

His works are to be found in various Galleries and private collections in Bulgaria, Switzerland, France, USA, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Canada.

Ivan Totev says:

 I express myself by sculpture. I don't want to be an artist in a broad and indefinite sense.

    My figures are externally static, in steady postures, for which in most cases I need a third supporting point. I try to find the drama not in a gesture, but in internal dynamics – in the movement of the form, in its attempt to break the silhouette, in the conflict of the mild depths and the explicit high parts of the volumes.

      I'm moved by images, purified by minor details, charm and provocation. I try to introduce anthropomorphic and zoomorphic forms to a sign, but I don't want to cut the relation with physical reality.

     My sculptures are silent and tectonic, but every one of them has an irrational moment. And silence. And no humor at  all. Not at all!
