Chin Hsiao is a Chinese artist born in Shanghai in 1935. In 1949, he left to live in Taiwan, then in 1952, he returned to Lee Chun-Shan's studio in Antung Street in Taipei where he followed the teacher's teaching for a few years. In 1956, he actively participated in the founding of the “Ton Fan group” and obtained a scholarship allowing him to study art in Spain. Despite the distance, he remains very active within the group. At that time information on contemporary Western art was scarce in Taiwan, but Chin Hsiao regularly sent articles which were published in a Taipei newspaper. He also regularly corresponds with the artists of the “Your Fan Group”. In 1959, he moved to Milan and founded the “Punto Group”. He went to live in the United States from 1967 to 1972, taught painting in various prestigious schools and met artists such as Mark Rothko and William De Kooning. In 1973, Hsiao Chin returned to live in Milan. A major retrospective of his work took place at the Kaohsiung Museum in Taiwan in 2010.
