Gérard Beaulieu

Born in: 1944

Painter, lithographer, draftsman and sculptor, Gérard Beaulieu is a protean artist, born in Reims in 1944. After his studies, he became a draftsman and his work was acknowledged by several awards like the French aesthetic industrial label. During his long years of painting, he explored styles and aesthetics, moving from figuration to abstraction. His series of 100 to 200 works focused on an idea, a desire, a style and a theme. This lead to varied work, whose governing principle is a perpetual quest of renewing and creation, all the while putting down roots in art history. "I lean on traditional techniques of figurative painting, when it comes to pictorial technique and composition. My aim is to innovate in order to renew the formal aspect of the classic decor, by leaning on my experience as a designer and invent a system of forms, graphics and colors, which give a new and playful aspect to these topics, which have been treated a thousand times", says the artist to explain his approach. Gerard Beaulieu has been exhibiting in galleries since 1967. Several exhibitions have followed one after the other in France but also USA, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
