London based artist Helen Butler creates minimal, abstract paintings on canvas and paper, inspired by atmospheric colour and light and the beauty found in the fleeting and the ethereal. The paintings are created by overlaying very thin layers of translucent oil paint, applying and scraping back the paint so often only a residue remains. A colour journey commences with the residue of one colour and its vibration with another.
