Marie-Elisabeth Collet

Born in: 1950

Born in Nice, Marie-Elisabeth Collet studied at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs and at the Institut des Carrières artistiques in Paris. After spending some time in Lyon and Avignon, she moved back to Nice. She had a major show in 1985 at Saint-Paul and got to know the major players of contemporary art in the region: André Verdet, Jacques Lepage, Michel Gaudet, Françoise Armengaud.

Art critic Jacques Lepage wrote about one of her shows in 1990: "Marie-Elisabeth Collet's works are informed by an existential relationship between the primary elements : earth/dirt, sea/water, sky/air, and show a consistency that, since her exhibition at the Archetype gallery in 1986 is transforming and developping or getting lighter, towards a certain sobriety and rigor."
