Renaud Barse

After many years in the theater, Renaud Barse returns to painting. Self-taught by conviction, Renaud Barse is used to saying that he learned to paint through theater and poetry. The discovery of painting by Gérard Gasiorowski, Koa Pham, Antony Tapies and Cy Twombly was decisive in his career and continues to be a source of inspiration today. His work focuses mainly on the trace and the recovery of it, on its disappearance. He paints exclusively in oil which he sometimes mixes with tar. The tar slightly colors the paint by capillary action. The mixture of oil and tar creates in places and depending on the pigments, cracks, cracks or takes a smooth and transparent appearance like resin. His favorite medium: hemp sheets stretched over frames. Alongside his painting work, Renaud Barse creates what he calls his "Sculptures-Minute" made from objects gleaned from the sidewalk. These works are like small altars through which he pays homage to these abandoned objects. Old photos on silver paper are sometimes incorporated into his sculptures.
