Nox

NOX is a French artist born in 1980 who lives and works in Chateau La Vallière, near Tours, France. His main influences are science-fiction, genre cinema, pop culture, videogames and industrial music. Those reference imbibe his abstract creations in which his whole personality shines through. His informal approach, guided by the acceptation of accidents, unplanned reactions of materials and chemical reactions, has lead him to what has become his main line of work : the relationship between man and his pantocrator posture toward matter.In his will to control his universe, man creates chimeras which are eventually altered by the natural elements thus uncovering one or many realities. This substrate then ceases to be a mere passive material and shows some necessity to change, as if fuelled by an intrinsic need for exacerbated power, transfered yet autonomus.NOX sees in the spontaneity of chemical transformations the realisation of this allegory. Matter acquires autonomy, it evolves into another visual reality and state, altering the reality projected onto it by the spectator. At that point NOX first focalized on the oxidation iron, using a water-based acid wash. The first works using this process were resolutely abstract, brute, radical, stained with real rust thus following industrial aesthetics.
