Michel Michaux

Born in 1937 in Charleroy, Belgium, Michaux started drawing at the age of 4 years old when his first drawings represented moving trucks! In 1949 his uncle offered him a small easel, a canvas, a box of paint, it was the trigger, the virus Picturalis Virulens was inoculated and impossible to eliminate. He rushes into the park of the family home, plants his easel and paints a landscape, a real barboule full of spontaneity. This first work has never left the artist and is still in his studio. His father offered him some painting lessons with a local painter.

At 17 years old he wants to enrol in Fine Arts but absolute refusal of the parents, his father is an architect, he will become an architect because he likes drawing!!!!! This earned him 5 painful years wandering from one school of architecture to another but secretly following the courses of harmoinia, anatomy, drawing, and composition in the Fine Arts schools that allowed him to do so.

Until 1994, it will be difficult for him to associate his two activities but he will exhibit on each occasion and from 1995 onwards he will only devote himself to painting. During the periods 1960-1970 and 1976-1994 he frequented some painters such as Picasso, Magritte, Camus, Bazaine, Landuyt, Ransy and Alechinsky. He presented his works to Adrien Maeght and was the first to exhibit at the foundation under construction in Saint Paul de Vence, the advice of Mr. Maeght was precious to him.

In 1998, leaving Belgium for good, he settled in Nice, his wife's youthful city. Two years of preparation of his workshop he takes up brushes nature inspires him, sailboats interest him, cars amuse him but these fields only serve him to allow him to master his art, based on a perfect drawing, on harmonious colors, he comes to take back a way of seeing the things he exploited in 1980: Surrealism but everyday life intrigues him and he launches into narrative compositions close to naive art, for two years this way of expressing himself has become essential to him. He has many projects!

Some of his works have been in private collections, Stella Artois, Banque Bruxelles Lambert, Lauvaux, Vandeweyer in Belgium, Consulate of Belgium, Town Hall of Nice in France, and in museums: Musée des Beaux Arts and Military Museum of Charleroi, Museum of Small Format in Viroinval in Belgium and Matisse de Ohain Museum in France.
