Jacky Lafortune

Jacky Lafortune, known as Jacky, is a French artist, born in 1946. A travel enthusiast, he hitchhiked Europe in his youth, taking advantage of his carelessness. In Scandinavia at the end of the 1960s, he took part in the very first urban counter-cultures which spread through Nordic pedestrian streets. At this time, he was introduced to the art of street chalk which he shared with his traveling companions. Passionate about human sciences, he first studied sociology, then he opted for psychology and anthropology. Holder of a doctorate in medieval frescoes, he preferred practice by becoming a student at the Pierre Caron workshop. In 1986, aged 40, he decided to give up his first life to become an artist and teach at the university - L'Atelier Craie Action. Although deeply attached to classical and modern painting, Jacky considers cubism as the paroxysm of Art, still unsurpassed to this day. Jacky paints with casein and Carrara marble powder, a pictorial technique favored by Greek, Roman and medieval masters, as well as by certain contemporary painters such as Miro or Balthus. His line brings out contemporary figures that could be integrated into comics. He substitutes chromatic modulations with bright, dazzling flat colors, without however excluding monochrome compositions. His work is based on a typical framing which is based on the technique of modular partitioning derived from chalk practices.
