Marie-Jo Coutin

Marie-Jo was born in Sallanches in 1964.

She has been drawing since her earliest childhood and it is from the age of 5/6 that she "meets" Nicéphore Niepce by reading the words inscribed on the memorial of St Loup de Varennes (71 - France): "Inventa la photograph in 1822 ”. Without knowing why, these words are engraved in her and will never leave her; the 1st piece of the puzzle falls into place.

A year or two later, when television arrived in her family, she immersed herself in the films of Laurel and Hardy and Charlie Chaplin. Black and white adds another piece to the puzzle.

The encounter with painting takes place in the middle school years when she leafed through the history textbook at the very beginning of the year. She discovered for the first time reproductions of paintings by masters and, among them, “Joseph” by Louis Le Nain. The light / dark is firmly anchored in her, while completing the puzzle.

She has been a nurse for 20 years and nudity is part of her daily life. Here again, the puzzle is enriched with a new piece.

In 2006, in parallel with her nursing profession, she devoted herself to acrylic painting. THE revelation is made during the presentation by one of his teachers of a painting on a black canvas. The puzzle is polished and begins to take shape.

All the pieces of the puzzle come together when Marie-Jo paints in black and white light / dark on black canvas. Painting then becomes his only universe.
