Born in 1972 - France
Born in Montpellier in 1972, the artist Sophie Leblanc studied architecture before entering the world of illustration, edition of children's books and advertising in 2004. She became a painter in 2012. The artist currently lives and works in Paris.
The artist's work is characterized by the use of smooth oil which lets the preparatory work in pencil filter. In order to depict emotion in the faces of her characters, she keeps her work quite simple, she avoids adding any flourish that could distract the viewer from the main subject: childhood.
The artist works from pictures of models, which allows her to capture the rare and ephemeral moments that inspire her.
Even if her work was once very graphic, the artist evolved and concentrates now on light. A light composed of watercolor touches, neon smudges, unlikely colors, which reminds us the love for acidity which characterizes childhood.
Sophie Leblanc creates a gateway, for those who want to go through, between our early days when we didn't care about anything and that of the subject; the simultaneous contemplation of two childhoods that are already over.
