Presentation

Laura and Ricardo Nillni are a couple of artists born in Buenos Aires. They are currently working in collaboration in Paris around Kinetic and Digital Art, but also upcycling and contemporary music. Cross-functionality has always animated their works: mathematics, digital art, music and literature being the pillars of their research. Admitted to the National School of Fine Arts, Laura Nillni received a general training there, to then specialize in painting. After her diploma, she made the choice to leave Argentina to discover other images, other mediums. She studied photography in Tel Aviv in 1986 and ended up settling in Paris in 1987, with the aim of deepening her artistic training. The influence of the landscape and the practice of photography in Israel led him to work on the material. She arrived in this way at wall sculpture and developed a work on contemporary textiles, crossed by the texts of Jorge Luis Borges, which will become her master's thesis in Plastic Arts at the University of Paris VIII, which she supports in 1989. Wall sculpture remains Laura Nillni's favored medium for several years. His wooden objects can be found in several specialized places, including Paris Museums. At the same time, she is developing work on kinetics through installations of her wooden tops. It is thanks to her jewelry and her spinning tops that she was selected at the Salon de Montrouge in 1993 and 1994. In 1994, the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris ordered a wooden brooch from her in a numbered series. If their work has evolved through different art forms, borrowing in particular from music and literature, it is through the mathematical concepts of repetition, combinations, variations and permutations that they assert their visual identity. A work can therefore be produced in video, in sculpture or in painting on a wide variety of materials up to Total Art installations. Only the need for a modular unit, the proliferation of which is implicit, remains invariable. And this need, in turn, can only be satisfied by a construction where geometry and its dreamlike sensitivity reign.
