Véronique MASUREL was born in Belgium in 1954. She studies History at the Lille University and afterwards she is accepted by the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She lives and works in Paris.
Her paintings are inspired by the observation of nature. Her work has evolved very much the last years.
In her paintings and her gouaches before 2009, she uses multiple layers of paint that bring the elements of the landscape to life, like evasive memories or the resurgence of forgotten places.
Her recent works are generated by a closer observation. Branches, shells, leaves, dried flowers, rocks? all these elements are collected during walks or trips, they are traces and memories of different places and they lay on a table in the artist?s studio.
Starting from drawings, from numerous preparatory sketches, the elements of the painting begin to take shape; they are instinctive, dynamic, sometimes free from real life, almost ?in suspense? in the void of the paper or of the canvas.
In her latest works, Véronique MASUREL pursues her exploration of the vegetal world. Taking inspiration from old herbariums, she creates the shapes directly, by cutting canvases covered with color and placing them on walls.
