Mazel & Jalix is a duo of French artists uniting Jean-Claude Mazel and Yann Jalix. The artists live and work in Paris.
Born in 1950, Jean-Claude Mazel studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts et des Arts Décoratifs before specializing in drawing. This technique allowed him to express his strong passion for styling his subjects. Through sculpture, he was able to find a means to continue his research work on simplifying shapes and their glorification.
Born in 1960 in Paris, Yann Jalix makes sculptures and videos and does photography. He's inspired by flora and this has become his favorite subject.
The artist met in the 80's. Ten years later they created their own foundry and their "Le jardin extraordinaire" project. Even though each one has their own speciality, they have managed to create original and poetic works together. Yann Jalix makes models and tries to be as real and true to nature as possible. In keeping with the same simple and elegant approach, Jean Claude an unparalleled colorist, is in charge of the sculpture's patina.
