Caroline Vaillant is a French photographer, born in 1976, she lives and works in the Parisian region.
She did her studies at Ecole Supérieure d’Arts et Médias in Caen/Cherbourg and graduated in 2000, since then she has mainly been working with photographic installations.
Caroline Vaillant likes to study the relationship between the photographer and the person who is getting his picture taken. For this, she stages and takes pictures of people who are alone or in a group and are knitting.
Knitting is seen as a metaphor for communication and social networks here: today, one weaves links with people without actually speaking with them. Right in front of us, there's a silent dialog between several people who are knitting, without looking at each other.
