Patrick Rosiu

Born June 4, 1953 in Paris, in 1973 he began studying architecture at the National School of Architecture (ENSA) in Paris La Villette then in Paris-Tolbiac. In 1979, he joined the University of Vincennes, an experimental center where he was interested in disciplines as varied as cinema, plastic arts, philosophy and psychoanalysis. In 1981, he embraced the career of professor of plastic arts, and was appointed to Vence in 1994. Since then, he has worked in the Alpes Maritimes region, combining his teaching activity with that of Chargé de mission with the rectorate of Nice. Since 2015, he has become educational advisor for the museum structure of Tourrettes-sur-Loup.

Patrick Rosiu started exhibiting in 1977, when he was a student, in Paris. Very quickly his practice was articulated with literature, and he illustrated several works (Agrafes in 1980 or Geste in 2001), newspapers (L'Illustre du soir in 1983 and 1990), magazines (Poetic Action) or even catalogs. (Seven French-speaking poets). New exhibitions are born from its exchanges with the literary world. Thus, in 1980, he exhibited “The Invasion of the Galatians”, a work of acrylic on paper, born from his collaboration with Paul-Louis Rossi, for their work Sôteria, recounting the victory of Zeus Sôter over the Galatians.

For many years, Patrick Rosiu has been developing pictorial research centered around the links between art and psychoanalysis. This double involvement will be the common thread of his creation, throughout his career as an artist and until today. He is attached to the Platonic concept of technè in the sense that he "brings into existence" his works by his gesture, his gaze and his words.

Teacher, painter, illustrator, essayist and psychoanalyst, Patrick Rosiu had a multiple approach to contemporary art, skillfully combining practice and theory.
