Vincent Lithgow

My work is situated in the spirit of the Seconde Ecole de Paris, a movement of lyrical pictorial art called "hot abstraction" because it at the same time brought together the idea of a simplification of the form up to a certain geometrization. and a real painter's work linked to the use of oil paint, a traditional material.

Painters like Nicolas de Stael or Pierre Soulages were part of this movement. I actually use a certain geometrization making of the simplified pictorial space real visual melodies that it is a question of disconnecting from any figurative work, from any representation of reality. As with music, it is the associations and contrasts of color, rhythm, material that constitute the foundation of aesthetics, emotions and evocations.

This true painter's work is therefore that of a materialist, colorist, and plastic artist. I consider the material and the color through life and the contrasts they offer as primordial pictorial elements constituting the “dramaturgy” of the canvas and its expressiveness.
