Emmanuel Flipo was born in 1958 in Agen and he graduated from the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse and the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts at the Villa Arson in Nice. He lives and works in Montreuil and in Pézenas, France.
He is a conceptual painter, was inspired in the beginning of his career by the "support surface" movement and an he is an admirer of Joseph Beuys. He creates imaginary maps of an inner world that takes the form in collages, drawings and performances.
His artworks are inspired by his extensive travels and by a certain fascination for the accidental. Using expressive and accidental objects (old linoleum, pieces of wood, dried crusts of paint, etc.) he puts these objects into various contexts that suggest the different scales of geography.
