Biography
Affiliated to Ecole de Nice, Jean-Antoine Hierro lived between Saint Paul de Vence and Nice, after having lived in Casablanca during his childhood, and was born there in 1960. Jean-Antoine Hierro began with classic painting, then turned towards contemporary art, through collages, colors and cuttings...His creation is a mix between pop art from Ecole de Nice and action painting. According to the artist, Arman and Cesar are symbolic figures. He often "practices like they did elsewhere", underlines the artist. Their revolutionary practices, takes place by accumulating objects (Arman) due to their compression (Cesar) with monochrome (Klein). Since 1994, this protean artist embarked on the design and art market, and opened his very own gallery. He chose Nice to highlight the young guard. His paintings are exhibited in prestigious places: Paris (1981), Basel (1982), Frankfort (1982), Vienna (1983), Houston (1989)… The artist became famous while representing France during the bicentenary exhibition and his last two exhibitions at the Ferrero galley, a legendary gallery of Nice. The French Riviera highlighted his work, when the artist exhibited a work which was more than 350m², a tribute to Gaudi (architect of Güell park).
