Gilbert Mazout

Influenced by frontiers and roots, Gilbert Mazout draws inspiration from his own melting pot. African, Asian and European identities fill up his canvas. Influences of Pop art intertwine with animated visual language, free figuration and street art, but also ancestral cults and Dahoman voodoo. Mazout is a storyteller, he builds stories, the artist associates bodies with urban world objects. The combination is comprised of technique using pure pigments, solvent, spray paint, markers, scotchs and stickers. He captures the entire public space and experiments with materials and shapes up his very own tools. He constantly looks for new mediums and has shaped up the Akrylonumerik project with the Douze Douze and AKR collective, along with multimedia devices and performances which combine projection, painting and music.
