David Sitbon

Born in 1974 - France

Born in 1974 in France is a photographer living in Paris.
An autodidact, David Sitbon sharpens his understanding of images by editing films, working for a number of French filmmakers including Michel Blanc, Bertrand Tavernier, and Mathieu Kassovitz. David Sitbon has been continuing his photographic journey through experiments with mirrors and water.

The use of reflective material to reproduce reflections enhances the effects: sophisticated filters decrypt and aestheticize the invisible concealed in the visible, the unforeseeable hiding behind the predictable. His images express a return to the representation of the natural image and bear witness to the virtual element that lies at its origin. This matrix, which dates back to ancient times, has mutated into digital photography. A gigantic web of images is being woven every day all over the globe through social media and online publicity campaigns. Removing the need for paper, digital photography has created a new ‘virtual’ medium for images.

His first exhibition in 2008 is well received by a number of distinguished art collectors.
During the summer of 2010 he invents, and then implements, a new photography method. He travels from the East Coast to the West Coast of the United States in a specially designed van. Equipped with a giant dark room, the vehicle allows him to project video images or slides onto the surface of a pane of glass and photograph the reflections of the landscape on the glass.

These snapshots create a new genre of images and are the manifestation of a new form of photographic expression. This project is called American Reflection.
