Nani Champy-Schott

Born in 1959 - Germany

Born in Ulm, Germany in 1959, Nani Champy-Schott has studied at the Freie Kunstschule (School of Arts, Ceramics Department) in Nürtingen (Germany) and at the School of Applied Arts and Crafts in Paris.

A member The International Academy of Ceramics, today she lives and works in Plaisir (France).

She has participated in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe, as well as Japan and China.

With the Paris Potiers Association, she has been collaborating for fifteen years in the organization of the Ceramics Days, an event that takes places in the Place Saint Sulpice, in Paris.

Nani Champy-Schott shapes her pieces by hand from plates or clay coils and applies on them layers of color glazing and enamel with a brush or a spray gun.

Nani loves raw clay, the soft and porous shards, the association of the element of surprise and the exigencies of the craft.
Her pieces are dynamic, rather organic than vegetal, they have a certain rhythm; the artist seeks the unexpected through the style of burning the clay. The enamels are meticulously designed, and the heat is controlled. The artist?s imaginary universe is projected in the network of cracks on the piece taken straight out of the oven, a unique moment when the surface becomes a territory of different plots. The color enters a graphic network, becomes matter, volume, vibrates or becomes soft.

"My passion for the clay manifested itself when I was very young. It has determined my life and it connected me to the world. My work consists of emotions, sensitivity, the Raku, colors, balance, porcelain, the lightness, the desire to touch and be touched.

I wish to put the material in motion with my ceramics, to give grace and lightness to the clay and to life."
