Born in Wiesbaden in 1945, Manfred Dörner is a German artist. He lives and works in Berlin.
His early works are mainly sculptures in steel, which he created using welding techniques.
Since he set up his studio in Berlin, Manfred Dörner has immersed himself in the world of painting and has given up sculpture. His preference for large formats, brought him to the 80's to assemble several small canvases to create large-scale works. Since then, he has preserved this compilation technique, which has evolved towards a bigger and a more rectangular format.
His aim is at the heart of his conceptual work, namely creating new artistic effects through these combinations. It isn't about solo work or a fixed and static entity that interests him, but rather the potential changes and opportunities which come along in pictorial structures.
