Guido Gambone

Born in 1909 - Italy

Gambone Guido was born in Montella, near Avellino on 27th June, 1909. In his teenage years, he moved to Vietri sul Mare with his family, a city known for its pottery.

At the age of fifteen, against his father's will, he left school and became an intern in Franceso Avallone's ceramic manufacture and did a training at Artistica Ceramica Salernitana and Industria Ceramica Salernitana (I.C.S).

In 1935, he became artistic director at I.C.S and founded the La Faenzeralla, with his colleague Andrea D'Arienzo. He began to make his own ceramics which included painting, primitivism, tradition and modern artistic trends. Initially, his pottery work was created through La Tirenna manufacture and then La Faenzeralla.

He is one of the key figures in the world of modern ceramic art.
