Alicia Paz

Born in 1967 - Mexico

A nomad artist, Alicia Paz was born in Mexico in 1967, and currently works in London, after having lived in France and USA. She graduated from Berkeley, Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris, Goldsmiths College and Royal College of Art in London, today she is represented by the Dukan gallery in Paris.

Whether these are portraits or landscapes, her works are filled with references and quotes which hint classic painting, but also theory of the image, advertising of even comic strips...Her works contemplate as much as her thoughts. The artist's thought process revolves around hybridism, metamorphosis or even dis-junction. Through this, Paz is able to dig the gap between artifice and reality much deeper and depict it in her painting. The artist dissects the death of painting, through a post-modern vein.

She was awarded the « Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes » prize in Mexico, Alicia Paz has been collecting artist residencies (La Friche Belle de Mai in Marseille, Cité internationale des arts in Paris, Gasworks in London, Delfina Studio Trust…)...Her work is part of several famous collections like FRAC Ile de France and Languedoc Roussilon, Malba Museum in Buenos Aires, Hanlim Museum in Korea… The artist also participates in key fairs : Art Miami 2016, Summa Art Fair 2014 in Madrid…
