Born in 1983 - Russian Federation
He lives in Moscow.
His mother, who was a painter, encouraged him to pursue artistic activities from a very young age.
He starts studying design very early. He is extremely interested in the human individuality though, and in personal expression, and he starts to practice photography 2005.
His image editing abilities and his love for photography give birth to some strangely intense artworks, expressing a sensitive reality completed by a fascinating artificial aura.
Dou pushes the Surrealists? idea of the body that becomes an object of subversions, distortions and other mutations to the extreme.
His characters lack individuality. His creatures, his robots and his dolls fascinate us; they touch our hearts, seduce us, but they are disturbing at the same time. We can feel many things when seeing his artworks, but in no case will we stay indifferent. The faces become a field of investigation and extreme surgical transformations. Everything that could remind us of the flesh is deleted, erased, smoothed.
The transparence of the porcelain skin suggests the fragility of these pure, perfect creatures. This is how Dou, a child of his time, passionate about new technologies, manages to surprise us? Because despite their frozen empty looks, this young Russian artist?s ?mutants? still have a certain sensitivity and humanity in them.
His market rating was confirmed at the public auctions organized in London and Moscow by Christie?s and Sotheby's; several photographs of the artist were sold at a much higher price than their already high estimates. He is present in today's most important contemporary art fairs.
