Presentation

Born in 1982 in Singapore where she lives and works. Dawn Ng works with a variety of mediums, motifs and scales ranging from collage, photography and illustration, to installations using light or other media, as much for galleries, private sponsors of public institutions. like the Singapore Art Museum (SAM). Due to his nomadic lifestyle, a major part of his work speaks of (places) and uprooting, playing mischievously with notions of belonging, identity and nostalgia. His career in advertising is reflected in the pop resonance of his work, and his attempt to play with the obvious to tell the truth. Graduated in art and journalism from Georgetown University, Washington DC, and UCL Slade School of Fine Art, London, she spent these 10 years across Singapore, Paris and New York straddling art, design and advertising. In 2009, his installation I FLY LIKE PAPER GET HIGH LIKE PLANES inducted Dawn as the new "tour de force" of the young Singaporean art scene, following which his installation FWALTER (a giant inflatable rabbit) was acquired for the permanent collection of the Singapore Art Museum. It was loaned to France in 2015 for an exhibition at MAC, Lyon, on the best young artists of Singapore, also shown in Lille for the great cultural event "Renaissance" of Lille3000. Several installations have been commissioned since 2009 by the Singapore Art Museum featuring collage and light in space, such as SUPERHIGH, HELLO STRANGER, MASSIVE ATTACK and THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER ON THE INSIDE. Dawn was the youngest artist commissioned by the museum for its facade in 2010, for the Art Garden exhibition. In 2012, she worked again on a public commission for the Singapore Art Museum and presented her solo exhibition EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED IS RIGHT HERE at the Chan Hampe Gallery, Singapore, with whom she then participated in the 1st edition of Art Basel Hong Kong in 2013. His most recent series of photographs, A THING OF BEAUTY, presents installations in the style of still lifes, featuring small objects of everyday life collected from individuals. In this series, thoroughness in the form of everyday objects is celebrated, culminating in a sort of marvelous world of shapes and shadows that could have been built in stone. The plethora of objects collected for this palette were collected from a total of 138 mothers and small businesses, from bakeries to neighborhood grocery stores, in the heart of Singapore's residential neighborhoods, transforming each installation into anthropological documentation. little things that we have today and now. A THING OF BEAUTY is a celebration of the everyday and the ordinary. More recently, Dawn has just produced the HOW TO DISAPPEAR INTO A RAINBOW installation for the Hermès foundation in Singapore, on the occasion of the reopening of the brand's flagship.
