Born in 1977 - Slovenia
Originally from Slovenia, Irena Jurca is a visual artist born in 1977. She lives and works in Ljubljana. She studied culture at the faculty of social sciences of her hometown, she then studied design and photography.
Through her practice of photography, she aspires to weave invisible links between our inner experience of the world and the external social reality. Her work explores human experience, social reality, the existential quest, identity and the transient... Her photographs highlight our inner experience, the unconcious and their influences on our understanding of the world. For this, she relies on the leitmotivs of the sea and its attributes to compose allegories, contemporary vanities...She creates the feelings of "a disturbing strangeness of the being" oscillating between anxiety and joy. Disturbing and truculent.
