Mandy De Waal of the Daily Maverick describes Blessing Ngobeni as “producing award-winning work reminiscent of the style of Míro, but it is work that is fiercely critical of South Africa’s political elite.”

Ngobeni has participated in several group exhibitions. He is the recipient of the 2012 Reinhold Cassier Art Award at the Bag Factory (Johannesburg), funded by Nadine Gordimer that offers emerging South African artists under the ages of 35, in the field of drawing or painting, the opportunity to spend a period of approximately three months at The Bag Factory’s studios.

In 2013 he participated in the Works on Paper Group Show at Gallery MOMO and went on to become our featured artist at the FNB Joburg Art Fair 2013. He was also nominated as one of the Top 200 Young South Africans by the Mail & Guardian and received the prestigious ImpACT Award.

2014 saw Blessing exhibit a hugely successful solo exhibition, In His State of Madness, at Gallery MOMO and participate in the FNB Joburg Art Fair. He attended his first international residency at The Headlands Centre for Arts in California.

In the first half of 2015 Blessing has already exhibited in a number of group shows including; !Kauru’s Towards Intersections and showing for the first time at The Cape Town Art Fair.
