Presentation

The name "DASCA" comes together from the first initials of the artist name and surname. "I believe that art is a way of living, a lifestyle and, we all have different ways in which perceive different pieces" says Davide.

Growing up in a little town North West side of Italy, the artist spent time with a creative father, who instilled in him a love of crafts and art. The artist was easy impressed by the concept of creating art, someone´s else vision.

It is only in 2016 that he began to paint intensively, experimenting with various mediums and processes on canvas. Having lived in various countries, influenced a lot his works. Currently reside and have my small studio in Switzerland.

Some of DASCA biggest influences are landscapes, artificial objects and patterns such as old walls, water, rocks and buildings. Travelling also has a big impact on his works; "Exploring new places opens up my mind" he says.

Self-taught, DASCA works spontaneously and begin with a set plan in mind, an inspiration or an image. He take pictures of different subjects, and I reduce the subject to to its dominant colours, shapes, or patterns, sharping lines and angles. Differently, the artist strip of the subject detail and floating it against abstract backgrounds, to resemble landscapes or scenarios.

He let each painting evolve intuitively as he builds each layer of paint. "Sometimes the works resolve immediately and other times can take days".

The artist uses heavy body acrylic paint and modelling paste as base. He build up different layers of colour and texture which are repeatedly worked out to create depth and visual interest throughout the painting. A palette knife or simple brush its used to apply the paint directly onto the canvas. "Lately I have been discovering that blending colours with the only palm of my hands or fingers gives a completely unique style to my works, especially with oil paintings" state DASCA. Some effect are created laying the paint using everyday product, like bottles, paper, or strings. Because of these methods, it creates a thick texture that can be felt as well as seen.

Each piece is then finished off with a layer of gloss varnish to enhance the colours and depth and also protect the surface of the painting.
