Arthur Morard

Arthur Morard was born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, April 23, 1882. He studied in Neuchâtel and obtained his maturity and a scholarship to enter the Beaux-Arts in Geneva, in 1902. He attended the classes of Jules Crosnier, Gilliard, Vibert and Léon Gaud. He travels to Paris, Rome and Florence.

In November 1908, he married Jeanne Sestié and settled for 30 years in Vétraz, near Annemasse. In 1937, he returned to his country and bought for 10,000 francs a cottage by the lake in Versoix.

Albert Rheinwald will say in an article he wrote on the occasion of the exhibition of Morard's works at the Rath Museum, in 1951: "... From the moment he chose to live by our little sea the lake, all his work is indeed a hymn to light ... "

Morard painted many canvases with the Versoix theme. He also has links with Carouge, he was a member of a local association of painters, the Palette carougeoise, from 1938 until his death in 1950.
