Roland Coudon

Switzerland Born in: 1897

Roland Coudon was a creative visual artist. Roland Coudon, born in 1897, died in 1954.

Born in 1897, Roland Coudon grew up in the 1900s and 1910s and was inspired by the artistic atmosphere of the time. The first great movement of post-impressionism in the early twentieth century is generally regarded as the Fauves, a group for whom intense otherworldly colors and vibrant brushstrokes were a key component of painting, and who counted Henri Matisse among their members. In Paris, around the same time, a young Pablo Picasso painted his famous Blue and Rose periods. At the end of the 1920s, he developed with Georges Braque the first fracture of illustrative reality with analytical cubism.

The first twenty years of the twentieth century can be considered among the most successful, and is noted as the epoch in art history when modern and modernist ideas began to take hold of cultural production. The new order and rationality, as well as the mechanization of modes of production, saw the parallel discipline of art, architecture, develop at an astonishing speed in the work of designers such as Le Corbusier and Gerrit Rietveld. It was the era of the Bauhaus and the idea of a discipline common to all the creative arts. Most, if not all, of the important artistic movements that we associate with modern and contemporary art can be considered to have originated many of their main founding philosophies in the incredible diversity of works produced during this period.
