Presentation

Rachael Nee is a British artist born in 1964 in Wiltshire. She studied at the Bristol Polytechnic from 1984 to 1987 as well as at the University of the West of England from 2002 to 2004. In 2003, she won the first prize of the Viewers Choice by the same university. After doing a training in ceramics, she became fascinated by fire and its incredible artistic potential. Today, she integrates it fully into her work of artistic production, making her creations unique and unclassifiable.

Rachel Nee uses fire from ordinary objects, such as candles or matches for example. Light and shadow play a very important role in her work, which approaches various and profound subjects such as energy, entropy, the reality of matter, the beginning of the world, time... Fascinated by nature and by the origin of things, Rachael Nee uses art and painting as her way to illustrate her scientific researches. Her creations are geometric, almost mathematical. The references of biology and of the science world are numerous, and underline the evident complementarity between this universe and art.

Rachael Nee's work is present in numerous public and private collections in the United Kingdom and in the rest of Europe. In 2005, she was selected for the Jewood Drawing Prize. In 2007, she was elected Academician of the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol.
