  • About the artwork

    Artwork sold in perfect condition

'Contemplation' female nude sculpture is professionally cast in Toronto at MST Bronze. Beautifully soft to the touch with a traditional rich reddish brown patina containing a hint of black, she can be viewed in variety of angles (front, side or back)

Classically trained as a figurative painter, I was inspired to create this piece working directly from the model, with completion in the studio. She can be enjoyed at many angles

This piece is the first in a limited edition of only ten (1/10) signed, numbered and stamped on the back bottom of right leg. The piece is fixed to a polished granite base (black).

Joyce Fournier

Canada Born in: 1958

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Joyce is an internationally collected Multidisciplinary Painter and Sculptor living and working in Toronto.

While her main focus is Abstract Expressionist painting, she also has a passion for sculpting and drawing the human form for which she was academically trained.

Over the last twelve years Joyce has exhibited in solo and group shows within Canada and internationally. Featured on several occasions in American Art Collector magazine since 2009, her work is found in private and public collections in Canada, the USA, and Europe.

STATEMENT

"My paintings are Abstract Expressionist and entirely conceptual. They are bold and passionate created with conviction in response to a specific emotion or state of being. Working medium to large in size I start by randomly applying heavy bodied- Gesso to the canvas to create a geometric design. I then use this design as a template for acrylic paint application. I rarely use colour directly from the tube and prefer instead to mix my own. I feel this lends intimacy to the work. Using large brushes and / or palette knives I allow some paint to drip while scraping out various areas to reveal the under painting. My goal is to say as much as possible without having a big discussion. I want people to see what uniquely speaks to them, depending on their own situation. People see different things in my work. Movement, Colour, and Passion are words I often hear people use when they speak about my work. I have been most influenced by the great Abstract Expressionists of post World War II America. Specifically, I feel my work most resembles what one would see if Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline and Hans Hofmann had collaborated to paint something together."
