Obsolètes

Paris From September 16, 2021 to December 20, 2021

Presentation
Obsolètes is the meeting of art and fashion.

Initiated by Nicolas Crampel, founder of Kholab and very quickly joined by Guillaume Fratello, founder of the Fratello Gallery, we recycle pieces of textiles for artistic purposes.

The Obsolètes project was born from a desire to turn away from the use of cotton. Indeed, this raw material is very present, as well in the universe of the fashion as in the art, and requires enormously water for its culture. It is estimated that it takes between 5 and 19,000 liters of water to produce 1kg of cotton, depending on the technique used.

For this first project, we decided to propose to the artists to work on jeans. Also a big water consumer to be produced (it takes an average of 11,000 liters of water to produce a pair of jeans), each piece is made from second hand jeans.

The fabrics and silkscreen prints are made from scraps that are not available in the second-hand circuit. We recover them and rework them in our workshops in order to make canvases, usable by our artists.
