The need to explore darkness for luminosity
Black waves structure the smooth and shiny texture, creating changing interlacings composed of furrows. Like Soulages, it is an expression of black, as a "unique black," with differences in texture: smooth, thick, calm, tense, or agitated. These curves capture or reject light and simultaneously give rise to grayish blacks, brownish blacks, or deep blacks.
This series is a continuation of the series: The Path, the Waves. While the latter tends more toward natural, warm, and earthy tones, this series focuses first on a first work, where we can find some old brown curves, but interspersed with black curves. Subsequently, in this series, I will focus exclusively on painting black. The recent death of Soulages, the death of my father at the same time, grief, the need to explore darkness for luminosity, all push me to explore the light of black. With contrasting and intertwining curves, the blacks stand out, overlap, and captivate the light differently and intensely, depending on their location.
Creative process: initial smooth and glossy layers, then deep furrows and complex interlacing.
The texture of black and the reflections of its waves
Black, as a unique and plural entity, becomes its own language, an infinite exploration of the possibilities of light and dark. Each curve, each texture, each nuance transforms into a distinct voice in this monochromatic symphony. The act of painting in black becomes an intimate dialogue with the material, a means of exploring the depths of the soul and the universe. The complexity of blacks, far from being a simple absence of color, reveals an immeasurable richness of feelings and reflections, where each shadow tells a story and each light emerges as a revelation.
The first layers are often smooth and glossy, capturing the light evenly. Then, Anaïs adds varied textures: deep furrows, undulating waves, intricate interlacing. Each curve and texture is carefully crafted to create a unique play of light and shadow. The blacks overlap, contrast, and blend, revealing a palette of shades ranging from grayish-black to brownish-black to deep black.
Thus, this series does not simply depict black; it lives it, feels it, and expresses it in all its splendor and diversity. The works follow one another like chapters in an introspective narrative, where each painting is a step toward a deeper understanding of the duality between light and shadow, grief and rebirth. By capturing these fleeting moments of brightness and darkness, the painting transcends mere matter to become a true quest for meaning, a meditation on the very nature of existence and art.

Inspiration from Outrenoir Waves, Anaïs LF
Creative process: Initial smooth and glossy layers, followed by deep furrows and intricate interlacings.
Anaïs LF, in her artistic exploration, adopts a deeply introspective and methodical approach. Each work begins with an intense contemplation of light and darkness, seeking to understand their interaction and mutual influence. Inspired by the philosophy of Pierre Soulages, Anaïs explores black not as a simple absence of color, but as a dimension rich in textures and nuances.
The initial layers are often smooth and glossy, capturing the light evenly. Then, Anaïs adds varied textures: deep furrows, undulating waves, intricate interlacings. Each curve and texture is carefully crafted to create a unique play of light and shadow. Blacks overlap, contrast, and blend, revealing a palette of shades ranging from grayish-black to brownish-black to deep black.
The "Outrenoir Waves" series reflects this quest. Each painting is a step in the exploration of black as a source of light and emotion. The works captivate the eye and encourage profound reflection on the duality between shadow and light, grief and rebirth.
