The Crazy Grass

Genève From January 18, 2018 to March 10, 2018

Presentation
“Mad grass designates vegetation that grows anywhere and without human intervention. »We are opening the L'Herbe Folle exhibition this January 2018 to celebrate the 6 years of the space_L's existence. The name of the exhibition alludes to the gallery's positioning in Geneva. As a metaphor, the mad grass symbolizes a being who develops in an unexpected ecosystem and who becomes fundamental for this environment. The Espace_L gallery was created in Geneva, based on a new concept of establishing a dialogue between contemporary European and Brazilian art. Thanks to this, the gallery stands out from its counterparts installed in the rue des Bains by reiterating its proposal for discovery. The environments in which the weeds are established are invaded by these. This wild occupation can present drawbacks but also important benefits. Wild weeds work by chain reaction; as long as one takes root, others follow. They become essential for the balance of their ecosystem. Butterflies, for example, will feed on weeds for pollination afterwards. We therefore offer you some points for reflection, below, and invite you to visit the exhibition L'Herbe Folle where you will have the opportunity to discover works carried out by Niura Bellavinha, Victoire Cathalan, Fernando de la Rocque, Denis Jutzeler , Mila Mayer, Catherine Rebois, Vivianne van Singer, Julien Spiewak, Mai-Britt Wolthers and Vasilis Zografos. Why do we want to eliminate these "crazy" weeds? They give a neglected aspect to the garden, They compete with seedlings and young plants. However, these herbs have advantages: They are a refuge for insects which participate in the biological balance of the garden, They protect the soil from drought, wind and heavy rains, They are a resource to be composted, They are good indicators of the nature of the soil and make it possible to identify the places where amendments are necessary: nettle indicates soil rich in nitrogen, daisies grow in soils poor in calcium, rumex in compact soil ... Their flowering contributes to the beauty of the garden. Vernissage: Thursday January 18, 2018 from 6 p.m. Exhibition: until March 10, 2018 Opening hours: Tuesday - Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment
