Presentation

The artistic process in the words of Orlando Alandia

I see art as a way of reflecting on the world. The process of creation and the production of the work itself are one. The result does not depend on a certain end result or goal. Ultimately, the work turns out to be a consequence and a practice. Abstract painting is, for me, linked to poetry in its evocative power. It begins with an encounter with sensations rather than images. Color becomes a metaphor that symbolizes what is eternal, invisible, the essence of matter.

My painting is deeply linked to architecture, which occupies other spaces of my artistic practice, just like printmaking and textile art. The process undergoes all these cultural expressions and seeks to reflect on the greatest themes of life, such as: ancestrality, the Earth, the human condition, eroticism, in other words, questions that require introspection and growth.

Orlando Alandia C.

Biography

Born in Oruro, Bolivia, in 1963. Architect, painter and printmaker, he studied at universities in the United States and Italy. In Rome he obtained a diploma in architecture and in addition a postgraduate diploma in urban design from the Università Degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza". In Rome, he intensely cultivated his interest in the visual arts, in particular painting and printmaking.

Since 1991 Orlando Alandia has been a member of the "Associazione Internazionale Incisori" of Rome (International Association of Engravers of Rome) and has participated in several seminars on traditional and experimental printmaking techniques led by masters such as Rina Riva, Nicola Sene , Alba Balestra, Amy Worthen, Jill Carlson and others,

Alandia has organized several solo exhibitions and is part of group exhibitions in Italy, Bolivia, Brazil, United States, Mexico and Guatemala and her work can be found in important collections.

During his stay in Bolivia he was also a cultural operator, having artistic spaces such as "La Caja verde" (2006-2009); "Premio Nacional de Composición Orlando Alandia Pantoja" (2012-2016) under his curatorship and, in 2010, held the position of cultural manager for the office of the mayor of the city of Oruro.
