Paulo Abreu

Paulo Abreu is a Brazilian photographer who creates solitary, contemplative works brimming with mood and melancholy. Self-taught, he chooses to focus on issues arising from his own lived experience, all outside the visual idioms of established genres of photography.

Although Paulo has no formal artistic training, it is perhaps this very aspect of his practice that liberates him.

Like statues, his subjects stand in space, contemplating their fragility. They are solitary, solemn figures who share their pain and recognize it as part of the human experience.
